As the United States continues in the war against terrorism it’s natural for us to get tired and want to give up and desire to return to a time when less was required of us. Like the man said, "These are the times that try men’s souls…" When we grow weary and begin to entertain thoughts of quitting and suggestions that we should compromise and negotiate or even just give up, and because of our weariness these suggestions begin to sound more and more reasonable, it’s important to remind ourselves of the other guys’ goals. Here’s an interesting interview with one of Indonesia’s Muslim terrorist leaders, Abu Bakar Bashir, the spiritual leader of Jemaah Islamiyah the group responsible for the terrorist bombing in Bali. Here’s a couple of blurbs:
SA: What can the West, especially the US, do to make the world more peaceful?
ABB: They have to stop fighting Islam. That’s impossible because it is sunnatullah [destiny, a law of nature], as Allah has said in the Koran. If they want to have peace, they have to accept to be governed by Islam.
SA: What if they persist?
ABB: We’ll keep fighting them and they’ll lose. The batil [falsehood] will lose sooner or later. I sent a letter to Bush. I said that you’ll lose and there is no point for you [to fight us]. This [concept] is found in the Koran…SA: So this fight will never end?
ABB: Never. This fight is compulsory. Muslims who don’t hate America sin. What I mean by America is George Bush’s regime. There is no iman [belief] if one doesn’t hate America.
No one should understand these guys as well as committed Christians. They’re as committed to the spread of Islam as we are to the spread of the gospel. They believe they are doing the work of God and I don’t think they’re going to give up easily.
