When the Bible uses the words Blessing and Cursing it is referring to
words of power. Spoken words can effect the world, at least that’s what
the Bible teaches. The curse of the law and the blessing of Abraham are
both examples of words spoken with the intent of effecting the world.
In the case of the curse of the law the words of the curse were
designed to bring poverty, sickness, destruction, and defeat on those
who did not keep the law. In the case of the blessing of Abraham the
words of the blessing were designed to bring prosperity, health,
abundance and well being to Abraham and his children. The good news is
that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a
curse, i.e. poverty, sickness, destruction and defeat for us, so that
the blessing of Abraham, i.e. prosperity, health, abundance and well
being could come on us.
