Reading Time: 15 minutesIn his hometown synagogue, Jesus proclaimed the scripture fulfilled, he said the authority of the anointed was come, that the kingdom of God had at last arrived, the same message that had produced such tremendous results in Capernaum and throughout Galilee, but in Nazareth nothing happened. There were no miracles in Nazareth, no demons cast out, no eyes given to the blind, no lame walked. The kingdom of God had indeed arrived but the unbelief of the people of Nazareth hindered Jesus’ authority to deliver them. Unbelief prevented God from reigning in their circumstances. Unbelief thwarted the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. The kingdom of God has been here and people have been not believing and not receiving ever since.
Reading Time: 15 minutesThat’s what Jesus was announcing when he announced the Kingdom of God in Nazareth, that’s what the people heard… “Salvation, rescue, deliverance, healing is here.” “Power is here.” Power to deliver the poor, the bound, the shattered is here. “The authority of the messiah is here.” The authority to set you free, and rescue you and deliver you, is here. Can you imagine how exciting those words would be? …Imagine the preacher gets up and says, “Today is the day you’ve been waiting for, today is the day God shows up.” That’s what the people in Nazareth heard.
Reading Time: 9 minutes…That’s what most Christians are saying, ‘The Lord will reign… someday….’ But Jesus, the disciples and the Apostle Paul said, ‘God is reigning now’ and they exhorted people to believe that and when the people did, God reigned in their lives. Most Christians are from Nazareth.
Reading Time: 6 minutesThe Gospel that Jesus preached was called, The Gospel of the Kingdom of God. We’ll get to what the phrase, “Kingdom of God” means in a bit, but first let me show you that it was the main theme of Jesus ministry.
Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Luke 8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
Luke 9:11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
Jesus ministry is focused on announcing the presence of the Kingdom of God and teaching his disciples how to enter it and participate in its expansion. The Kingdom of God is the purpose, the core, the point of Jesus’ ministry.
Reading Time: 5 minutesPaul said he wanted to preach the same Gospel to the Romans he had preached elsewhere. But when he finally made it to Rome he spent the next two years preaching about the Kingdom of God. So what happened to preaching the Gospel?
Reading Time: 7 minutesI want you to see the relationship between preaching the Gospel and the manifestation of God’s supernatural power, they go hand in hand. For Paul, Jesus and the other disciples preaching the Gospel wasn’t just sermonizing, it wasn’t just delivering information, it was creating the conditions for the manifestation of God’s supernatural rescuing power. The act of speaking the words of the Gospel in faith caused God’s supernatural power to come on the scene. Preaching the Gospel causes God’s supernatural power to show up.
Reading Time: 3 minutesMany Christians can recite, at least part of, the Nicene Creed, and some can even tell you the salvation formula but how many can tell you the words of the Gospel that Jesus preached?
Well,…what were they?
