Best DVDs For A Desert Island

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Christianity Today  asked for readers to submit their top 10 list of DVDs they’d want to take to a desert island. Here’s my contribution:

1. 2. and 3. The Lord of the Rings trilogy extended editions. Contains lots of stuff I probably didn’t notice the first 3 times.

4. Unbreakable. Hey I’m on a desert island I need to believe in superheros.

Most Memorable Line: You know what the scariest thing is? To not know your place in this world.

5. Planes, Trains and Automobiles,
The funniest movie of all time.

Most Memorable Line: She may look scrawny but she’s tough. Her first baby came out sideways and she didn’t holler or nothin.

6. Groundhog Day, Funny and according to some experts the only memorable piece of art produced during the 20th century.

Most Memorable Line: This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather.

7. Tombstone, One of the best cowboy movies ever made.

Most Memorable Line: Tell him I’m comin and hells comin with me, you hear. Hells comin with me!

8. Grand Canyon, My favorite movie. Miracles, angels, Los Angeles backgrounds.

Most Memorable Line: Maybe we don’t have any experience with miracles so we’re slow to recognize them.

9. Lonesome Dove, You said DVD’s. Best cowboy movie of all time.

10. O Brother, Where Art Thou? Great music and funny too.

Most Memorable Line: I don’t get your point Big Dan. It’s all about the money boys. It’s all about the money.

10. Life is Beautiful, subtitled. Uproariously funny, sad, and I can learn to speak Italian at the same time.

Most Memorable LIne: This is the sacrifice my father made. This was his gift to me.

10. Dances With Wolves, Absolutely beautiful, but I haven’t purchased the DVD yet.

Most Memorable LIne: Dances With Wolves. I am Wind In His Hair. Do you see that I am your friend? Can you see that you will always be my friend?
